St Giles' Cathedral

A City Church.

This cathedral is the dean of religious buildings in the city, hidden between the castle of Edinburgh and Holy Roodhouse Palace. The epic centre of Presbyterianism, it guards the chapel of the Order of the Thistle, the oldest order of chivalry in Scotland taking the thistle as emblem. .
The original construction was done in the IXth. Century but was not dedicated to Saint Giles until 1243. This Christian figure was a hermit that lived in France and became the Patron saint of Edinburgh thanks to the close and historic links between both countries. The cathedral has thus witnessed uprisings that have crossed the city, then revolts, and the materialisation of the Reform until our days.
